I use it both live and in the studio. You can assign sounds to 3 different banks of pads, for a total of 48 triggers. The MPD18 is an expressive and intuitive instrument for the studio and stage.

Other than that, I strongly recommended the akai mpd I use it in FL Studio as most people do nowadays and I’d have to say it’s pretty prrofessional.
